Butterflies and Bottlecaps - Acrylic and Oil on Canvas 24x36
"Butterflies and Bottlecaps" is inspired by a children's book I read many years ago by Eliza Clark. It tells a story of a little girl who has butterflies for hair. She doesn't like her butterflies because she cannot use ribbons and clips and covers up with scarves and hides away. One day she goes for a walk and hears the most beautiful sound. She discovers a little girl who has bottlecaps for hair. She is mesmerized by the light shinning off of them and the beautiful sound playing. "You are the prettiest sight I have ever seen." said the girl who had bottlecaps. "I like how your bottlecaps sparkle too, and how they tinkle like tiny bells when you move." said the girl with butterflies. In each other the girls could see the unique beauty in the other. They are each special in their own way.
I did a photo shoot and a hair show with this theme 20 years ago and this is the painting that comes from this inspiration. The girls depicted here are cousins and are truly beautiful in very unique ways.
"The energy and spirit you present is what makes you beautiful, timeless, ageless and whole." Lizanne Laurin. Size 24x36
